Goodyear Philippines and Filipino race car driver Angelo Barretto joins forces to bring home the trophies to the Filipino people in a recently made joint announcement at Bykes Cafe in Makati. The tire giant will support the 2004 racing campaign of Barretto which will kick-off in July at the 2nd Le Mans Classic, a competition which celebrates the history of the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. Barretto will once again race with the French Perspective Racing Team in their classic Porsche 934 RSR.
Barretto has had a successful racing campaign in the International scene with victories at Nogaro in France, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Hockenheim in Germany, Zhuhai in China, and more recently at the Le Mans Classic in France.
Barretto said he is familiar with Goodyear's commitment to motorsport competition and also further stressed that the tire manufacturer's long successful history in motorsports is more than enough evidence of this. He also related that he himself has had experience with Goodyear tires in racing as well, Goodyear Eagles are the official tire of the Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series, in which he raced in 2002.
Dave Morin, president and managing director of Goodyear Philippines, expressed excitement about Barretto and Goodyear leading at the finish lines around the world. "We look forward to many wins together - many wins dedicated to Filipinos everywhere."
Goodyear, as the tire company that has won the most motorsport championships worldwide, has leveraged its racing technology to the Goodyear tire that is used on the street.
"Our rich racing heritage is traced to 1901 and continues today with competition in endurance racing and from grassroots autocross to Top Fuel drag racing. When we win, everyone wins. What we learn at the racetrack is part of every Goodyear tire available to the consumer," Morin said.
